Now

All these words,
stories and poems,
from men long past dead.
Why do we put so much weight,
or try to find,
the meaning of what they say?
It's not my intent to discredit them,
we must look at our past to see our future
but we shouldn't spend so much time
looking over our shoulder.

It's as if we're paranoid,
to take the same misteps yet again.
Do you realize where you are now?
This is not tomorrow or yesterday,
this is not even today.
this is the now,
the very seconds of your life,
and everyone is bringing something new to you
weather or not it's just another breath...
that's up to you.

So why are you spending all your time
trying to figure out what a bunch of words meant?
They may have faced the same problems as we do today,
but if it's going to take a few hours
and you trying to force yourself into their age,
is it really worth it when you lose that one instant
when you knew what it meant to you?
